What is RiskSMART?

  • February 5, 2017

RiskSMART is the name of a program used by the Brisbane, Logan and Gold Coast City Councils to assess Development Applications (DA) faster. Its purpose is to assess low risk projects, via an accredited consultant, to cut waiting times for approvals. This streamlined process saves a lot of time and money for eligible projects and RiskSMART applications receive a significant discount on Council fees.

Various development application types are eligible for RiskSMART, from dwelling houses and multi-unit developments to commercial and industrial developments and subdivisions. The key benefits of RiskSMART assessment for eligible projects are:

Highly experienced consultant preparing your application

Less waiting time for approvals equals reduced holding costs

Lower application fees.

Consult Planning is a RiskSMART accredited consultancy. Our accredited planner prepares your RiskSMART DA along with a recommendation (including draft conditions) and submits this directly to Council. A town planner from the relevant Council then reviews our recommendations and potentially issues the development approval within as little as five business days.

In being an accredited RiskSMART consultant, it is our responsibility to:

Ensure the development complies with all Council criteria

See the application contains all the required information and is properly prepared

Propose development conditions

Provide accurate information to Council.

We regularly assess eligible Development Applications through the RiskSMART programs of the Brisbane City and Logan City Councils. We also prepare and submit town planning applications with Gold Coast City Council’s non-accredited RiskSMART program.

Brisbane City Council introduced RiskSMART in 2005 as a pilot project. Our Director Aaron Sweet was invited to be part of the pilot. Following its success and efficiency in Brisbane, this program was extended to the Logan and Gold Coast local government areas.

As one of the first accredited RiskSMART consultants, Consult Planning is well placed to assist with your fast-track application. For further information visit this page. For project-specific advice, please contact us directly via 1300 017 540 or office@consultplanning.com.au.
